Hey forum users, today I am creating this thread to put a basic guide out there of what your Bearded Dragon's living condition requirements are when we keep them in captivity.
Basic Enclosure
• Minimum 40-60 gal. tank for adults. If more space can be provided, I definitely recommend it.
• No lose substrates. I recommend a non-adhesive shelf liner or tile. You can also use paper towels or news paper.
(We want to stay away from reptile carpets, as they are hard to clean and a host for bacteria.)
• There should be no water bowl, as it will increase humidity. How ever, if you are an experienced keeper and can manage the temperatures, I say go ahead and offer it.
• All lights should be planted inside the tank to provide maximum uvb with no blockage.
Heating & UVB
• No spiral UVB lights. This will give your bearded dragon MBD or Metabolic Bone Disease.
• I recommend a ReptiSun 10.0 T5 | T8 or Arcadia UVB lights work well too, though I have no experience with them myself.
• UVB should be placed within the enclosure and no farther than 10 inches above your lizard.
• Your heat bulb should be 125 to 150 watts.
• Your basking temperature should be at least 103 degrees. (39 in Celsius.)
• The cool side should be 75-85. It should not drop below 65.
Placement & Decorations
• UVB should go horizontally across your enclosure on the inside of the tank.
• The heat lamp should be above a branch, basking stand, or any elevated area where your dragon has the option to go warm up.
• Other little decorations such as leaves, plants, or hides are all okay! Design your cage to your beardies liking but don't overcrowd the enclosure.
These are the basic requirements for an adult bearded dragon. Every dragon will need these requirements at one point or another in their life, and some of these requirements are needed through out their entire lives. If you have any suggestions please leave them below, as I am open to those.
